Prof. João Carlos Winck, MD, PhD is a Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Specialist and Full Professor at Porto University. He is the Coordinator of the Respiratory Medicine Unit at Instituto CUF Porto and Consultant at the Northern Rehabilitation Centre Cardio-Pulmonary Group. He is also a researcher at I3S (Institute for Research and Innovation in Health), focusing on mechanical ventilation, sleep-disordered breathing, and chronic respiratory diseases.
Prof. Winck has an extensive scientific contribution, with over 120 peer-reviewed publications, 12 book chapters, and 13 research awards. He has held key roles within the European Respiratory Society (ERS), serving as Secretary of Assembly 2 – Respiratory Intensive Care Medicine, and previously as Chair of the Non-Invasive Ventilatory Support Group. He is also a member of the College of Experts of ERS.
His professional memberships include the Portuguese Society of Pulmonology (SPP), the Portuguese Society of Intensive Care (SPCI), the Portuguese Sleep Association (APS), the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), and the Galician Society of Respiratory Pathology (SOGAPAR). He has served as an editor and reviewer for multiple leading medical journals, including Associate Editor of Pulmonology, BMC Pulmonary Medicine, and the European Respiratory Journal Open Research.
